DEEP BITE

Deep Bite: What is It and How is It Treated?

Deep bite, also known as excessive overbite is a type of malocclusion (bite issue) where the upper front teeth overlap the lower front teeth past the normal amount when the back teeth are biting together. This can affect a person's appearance, speech, and chewing.

How to Identify a Deep Bite

An orthodontist is able to diagnose whether an overbite is excessive, however in general terms, this is where the lower front teeth are significantly covered the upper front teeth. In severe cases the lower front teeth can traumatically bite into the gum behind the front teeth, similarly the upper front teeth can traumatic bite into the gum in front of the lower front teeth.
